I think painting from life is great. I rarely do it myself. To me painting landscapes on location is romantic and pure. I am writing this because I want to encourage people to do it. I myself am caught up in painting about television but for those of you that paint landscapes I hope you can share your stories of being in the country and paining different places.
My father paints from life. Half of his paintings are landscapes. He is not very prolific these days. 3 or 4 paintings a year. he always loves painting outdoors and tells me it is not the same with a photo. He lives in the country where I grew up.
One of the great movements and my favourite is impressionism and post-im. This was mostly done outdoors when landscape being the subject. The painting can take you outdoors. The act of painting can give you a reason to go outdoors.
I hope that we can all go and experience more of nature when we create pictures.
