This is how far I have progressed with painting this beautiful photo, I normally meausure with thumb and pencil, but as I cannot stand for too long these days,[getting old], I actually meausured squares on the canvas and scetched the figures in pencil, then sealed with turps, and then did a light outline with raw umber, I am happy with the progress I have made so far, but its not easy, and have heaps of more work to do, will post some more when I have done some more.

Hi Jewels, I know we live in the same part of Vic and I am wondering if you have the colour GREEN finally coming back into your part of the world!! Our lawn is actually turning green, its been so long, everything is starting to look beautiful again! I am so happy :)

Yes Jewels I was struck by this photo when I saw it on the cover of The Good Weekend too and did a small study based loosely on it. That little boy is absolutely gorgeous! You are doing a good job so far!

Sweetmango, sorry missed your post, yes everything is turning green again, but yesterday the wind blew trees over, house covered in red dust, and fairy grass everywhere, up to the windows on the house, unreal, the hazards of rural living..actually planted heaps of trees today in paddocks, so hope they grow....Jayde, its a beautiful photo isnt it, I havent done much more to it, and am having a bit of trouble with their faces as I knew I would, but will keep at it , and I will post again soon, thanks for your comments

Jewels, that nasty red dust!! Yesterday these big black clouds came rolling in and I said to the kids quick outside lets get everything in the carport before it rains. No rain as such, a little bit of a rain fell but it wasn't really rain it was MUD!! The big black clouds were full of red dirt, it took me half a day to realize it was a dust storm!!! Good luck with your new trees :)

Last time I saw a dust storm like that was on Ash Wednesday, we lived in Healesville at the time , and little did we know what lay ahead that evening, yesterday reminded of that dreadful day, no fires yesterday though thank goodness...

Yes we have been so lucky this year with the fires, about time too. I don't do very well with the smoke in the air, I get asthma, so I find them quite an ordeal.
I love Healsville, we lived in Eildon for 18 months and used to go to Marysville often and would sometimes keep going to Healsville to take the kids to the animal sanctuary, just loved it! :)

Sweetmango, we have probably passed each other somewhere in our travels, Healesville used to be a gorgeous sleepy country town, but got a shock when we went down there recently, it all has changed so much, I was really dissappointed, even the sanctuary isnt the same, but I guess thats progress. Marysville and Eildon are both gorgeous places, we used to go to those two places a lot, beautiful scenery ..
