Jewels... yes i had a moment of madness last night...and i posted a few pics as there didn't seem to be much activity here in the photo forum.... and as well as that i have been taking plenty of photos about as we have been on holidays.

I didn't know that these cuties are 'regarded pests' they do tnd to swarm around here... but i think them wonderful and we are so lucky to have so many birds about.

Travel and live in Europe... there seems to be a lot of pidgeons everywhere... but not much of anything else.

Cockatoos, Galahs, and corellas are all regarded as pests, here ,and farmers do awful things to them, I am like you, I think we are so lucky to have such beautiful wildlife, the birdlife in Australia is magnificent, so I really appreciate someone like you that thinks ducks and corellas are gorgeous, as I get told off in no uncertain terms if I say that in front of farmers, so keep up the photos

It's interesting to see the changes in populations & species of birds as suburbia takes over. There has been controversy here in the West about culling the Australian Ravens in certain areas. They are an intelligent bird & their numbers have increased so much of late but people don't like their loud noise & the way they forage through rubbish bins making a mess.

Jewels...It is shocking to hear that some people can say that they don't like having particular birds about because of their numbers...

I don't even want to imagine what farmers do to those Corellas or any other animal they deem pests...

Don't worry i will continue to photograph these and i am so happy to have them fly about and screach to their little hearts content!

Judy... its weird that this has come up... we were having a conversation about this very topic in art class on Thursday... we have noticed that all the sparrows have disappeared... i am one to actually cook up big pots of rice and feed the turtle doves and who ever else comes along just so i can foster these beautiful creatures and enjoy them in the backyard... we live in typical suburban street that is built up but would hate to miss out on all the diverse bird life here

I haven't seen a sparrow around for a while... pity!... but i have lots of blue wrens about and swallows... and so many other birds i can't recall their names just for the minute... it is we who have come in and taken over their habitat... and they have made adjustments.

The Ravens you mention are intelligent... just look at the way they have integrated themselves... actually learning that our rubbish bins contain/ or may contain tiny morsels of food!

I too feed the birds in our area Perugina! When we moved in there were 3 plants in the backyard, a rather large backyard. Even though we rent I have spent 4 years planting it full of natives, there are now trees and shrubs, all sorts of food plants and places for the birds to sit. In the last 18 months our yard has become a veritable chorus of birdsong. I have water out for them and different types of food scattered around the garden including a large compost that I am sure they see as a buffet dining area!! We have all sorts of birds including sparrows whom I love. I even went outside about 3 weeks ago to see a massive eagle walking around the yard having a drink, what a treat!!

sweetmango...what a lovely bunch of girls you all are... with you now included.

Thanks for letting me know about your birds, and it makes me very happy to hear that you feed the birds as well...and that you have created a virtual haven for them in the native garden you planted out... you must take photos... did you capture one of the eagle?... that would have been awesome!

Birds are very difficult subject matter as they don't sit still... i still have to check my photos from when we were away at Soldiers Point 2 weeks ago... was trying to photograph a willy wagtail that was teasing me!

The most exotic bird for want of a better word would have been years ago when a crane of some sort flew into the back yard.... It didn't surprise me as we live so close the the Georges River and have lots of little lakes in the area.

We have also had an owl land on our roof and sit there for ages.

It been really nice chatting to you all on this very quiet Good Friday.
