A local art commuity is sponsoring an exhibition of "FAKE MASTERS" (Some of us have been watching Davids progress on similar entries)

I am working on two "fake" paintings by Monet and Vermeer
Here is the Monet nearly finished, oil on 40x50cm canvas stretcher
Its a very challenging exercise and I am learning about Monet's approach to colour and composition. There is quite a bit of hidden geometry in his composition. See how the various figures and objects line up. He also makes use of the the Golden Mean in the placement of figures and objects

You can follow my progress here (http://abrahams08.blogspot.com/2008/02/monets-poppies.html)

bob....you talk with color so beautifuly......to me i always thought color was a language in its self.....so i tended to leave it alone and work in a tonal way...but yeah your color is great

Thanks Inkgal
For your interesting comment about colour.
Actually I aim to "talk" in colour, but colour language for me is

1)Tone (tone of the colours not black and white)
2)Temperature (Warm cool contrasts)
3)Hue (colour)
In that order of priority. I try to mix my colours clean and use earth colours and white sparingly and no black from the tube

Bob, your progress on these are inspirational!

Sounds like this local art community project is a fun one to be a participant in, there is a lot to learn and gain from trying to copy a 'master work' different perspective and appreciation only another painter who is involved in its reproduction can understand.
