I've been studying the works of Friedrich Hundertwasser (1928 - 2000) an Austrian artist who worked on many architectural projects as well as painting and designing tapestries, flags, stamps and more over his career.
In response to this study I've been inspired to have a go at a cityscape abstraction of my own.
It's 91.5x62cm, stretched canvas, acrylics.
Here is the first instalment.
Please feel free to comment and critique.

Hi Ingridr,
Hundertwasser is also one of my strongest influences. I just love his work. Your painting is a great start to a possible new direction. Do you have any books about him and his philosophy? His work is completely tied to his ideas and personal manifesto and is fascinating in it's depth and unique perspective. I think these are the things that give paintings a depth that can't be achieved with paint alone.

We can learn so much from other artists that have paved our way and their ideas can be used as a springboard for our own development. So, take this seed of inspiration and turn it into something special that is yours. It's looking good. I'd like to see where you take it from here.

Happy painting!

I can see a wonderful 3D effect already, and it has wonderful colours. It always amazes me how one subject can be seen in so many different ways!

Thankyou all.
Bojog, I was in Vienna in 2006 and visited the Hundertwasserhaus. It blew me away! That building is a work of art in itself. There is a gallery across the path from it with some of his work hanging. I bought a book there which gives a brief overview of his history and many examples of his work. I love the colours and the linework.
I had forgotten about it until the other day when this book resurfaced, and wallah!
Helm you are so right.

So here is my next instalment. I've added some detail and spruced up some of the colours.

Hello Ingridr,
The colors are flamboyant, I like that. Yes, Hundertwasser must have inspired you. I passed the Hundertwasser house last year, but did not have a chance to get into it.

Thankyou, Enid.
I know what you mean Inkgal. You don't have to be a fan to be appreciative. I could say that about plenty of different artists. But I like to see what's out there even if it's not my particular cup of tea.

At last I have had time to do some more on this project!
I have added some details and more line work.
Not too sure where to go next. Any suggestions?

If you cannot find anything else to do to it or to improve, just sign it

I like the addition of the eyes, it shows the human side. I have absolutely no suggestions, but shall come along for the ride!

Thanks, Bob, Jade and Judy.
I'm thinking of putting it into an art show in which the challenge theme is "The Power of Contrast". Is it worthy?

I like as it is, as Im no expert in abstract art, I can only say I really like it, great colours.

Actually I think it fits the theme quite good, and is such a bold painting, it'll stand out and be noticed I think. Best of luck for it, if you do!

Ingrid, its lovely. it holds your attention, certainly not a piece to get bored by. Meaning, if someone bought it, you wouldn't get sick of it easily.
