This piece is about motherhood (and fatherhood).
So may people I know have little ones starting school and are feeling all twisted about the letting go and having to let them fall over.
It's part of life and breeds resilience but it is very, very hard.
I'm responding to this flood of feelings.
Step 1 -
Basic sketch on canvas and white underpainting on pre-prepared undercoat.

It's scary doing a WIP for me Helm - often my vision changes with the work, and as the conversation with the canvas continues (if you know what I mean).
Glad you like the round canvas. :)

Not Painting! Lauren!
Are you busy being a mother or something? :flowers:
Not much more to do - just some shadows once it's properly dry. Almost there!

Yeah... been crazy with one in kinder and one in school! Next week should be good though cos Joel starts normal (longer!) kinder hours so I should have some painting time during the week which will be nice. I must admit though I've been enjoying the break, but I've got a commission to do so I can't slack off for much longer.

It's finally finished - 2 glazing sessions later.
I forgot to post the original inspiration.
The photo on the left (below) is the inside of an oyster shell we found on the beach a couple of weeks back. The picture just jumped straight out at me.

Thanks Belinda!
School is really wonderful. It's amazing to see how they blossom. It's awesome. I've lost track of the tears of happiness I've cried in the past year. I'm such a sook. :)
Lucky you - you get that first year next year. Treasure it.

Lol - I remember those first years of school and how hard it was to let them go. Now I keep thinking 'when they are going to move out of home!!!'
Michelle I love your inspiration of the oyster shell.
Thanks for showing what inspired this painting. It's amazing what can be seen within nature isn't it. Brings back memories of finding images in clouds, rocks & fire etc. Thanks.
