brilliant! yay wheres my tuna can. The best part is, all the old bits of residue stay down the bottom, I'm so sick of buying turps lol

I've been using a version of this for 18 months + now and it does work. I use a 2L bucket with lid and mesh raised off the bottom. Has 18 months worth of pigment settled in it. As it rises you just add another sheet of mesh and top up turps for evaporation.

That's a good idea with the mesh, Simon. It's times like these I wish I was still on the farm where trinkets like these were readily available lol

I have used a similar paint washer for some time. Howver mine must be portable and leak proof because it travels with me in the back pack with other art materials.
I purchased a commercil paint washer (http://www.theartshop.com.au/category1258_1.htm) which has a very sturdy lid clamp. I never throw out turps, just the dirty tissues that I use to clean out the washer every few weeks.
I recyle the dirty turps in a tall wide mouth bottle pouring off the clean turps when the sediment sinks to the bottom.

I have theory that the recycled turps also makes a good turpsy medium for initial wash in when I start a new painting.

I know of a successful artist who uses the recycled tirps as a general medium
