A lot of people at WC have been raving about drafting film as a support for colour pencil so I decided to give it a go with a portrait of my cat Sushi. Normally with CP you have to do heaps of layering to get a half decent surface and is a lot of work. The film however only takes a couple of layers yet you can still get a good result. Even better, if you don't get the depth of colour you want from the top layers you can turn the film over and lay colour on the back! I really like it. My CP's have been shut away in the cupboard for years but now I think I might finally get some use out of them!!

Thanks Emkay, Judy and Winnierose. Is there anyone in the forum that uses CP's? At the moment I am drifting backwards and forwards between all mediums - oils, acrylics, graphite, CPs and even a bit of watercolour. I feel like I can't stay focused on anything for too long - can't keep still! And at the same time not producing anything worthwhile. Arrrghhh!!!

we had a cat called sushi too, it had 3 legs
i like the drawing
Jayde, it seems you are having fun playing & experimenting with different medium. A lot can be learned by this & we all need to stop work & play someties. When you're ready to produce something worthwhile I'm sure your creativity, discipline, structure & work will produce some great paintings.

I know that this is an old post, but all my colour pencil work is now on drafting film (I'm also experimenting with charcoal and graphite on it as well. The cat in my avatar is cp on film.
If you have any questions, just ask:)
I don't understand what drafting film is but the results seem good! nice pictures!

Thanks Michelle for your offer of help. I tried out the film, stuffed it up a bit but learned more about it (probably like Sandy with her Yupo) then put it away again and moved on to something else. I am constantly moving between mediums as I get bored using the same mediums all the time. At the moment I'm drawing with felt pen but I might go back to trying the drafting film again soon. I wonder how felt pen would go on drafting film?

I get bored too:) I have just tried graphite and charcoal and then another piece with pure charcoal on drafting film. Lovely to work with, but very very fragile.
