Emkay came up with this wonderful idea to select a classic book each month to base artwork on if we choose. So please share some of your fantastic work based on the monthly book and we can enjoy and comment on each others work.
We'll make sure we start a new thread in this section each month with a new selected book.
Go for it!!!!!
This one is the Dec challenge - just starting early:)

back into the alice in Wonderland story
Ok, my sketches are VERY rough at this stage, but decided to show you anyhow.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a264/beescrappy/DSCF1845.jpg
The central image is a little illustration I am doing for my xmas cards, which I am still painting. The image on the right is the original sketch for the xmas painting and the sketch on the left is just a really quick idea of what I would like Alice's costume to look like.
I thought I would show the xmas illo as it gives an idea of the style I am picturing painting Alice in. So once I have finished my xmas card illo, I will start to seriously work on a decent sketch for Alice and determine what scene she will be in form the book and paint her. Hopefully I will have a finished sketch in the next couple of days to paint.

I finished my little illustration for christmas and she kind of reminds me of the Queen of Hearts, so I thought I would share.

It's been a while since I've visited here, and so I didn't take part in this monthly challenge, but thought I'd post some pics. Alice has been a theme for me for quite a while. :)
It all started with this one — a lino cut reduction print folded up into a fortune teller:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/61/364288936_2fef4826f8.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/crumpart/364288936/)
That led to a series of screenprints depicting Alice as she grew too big for the page:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2318/2042192464_582c5a46d8.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/crumpart/2042192464/)
And a set of knitted teacups titled We're all mad here (collect your thoughts):
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/149/364282098_5c660dbd59.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/crumpart/364282098/)
Then last year for the summer challenge, I decided to have an art show with an Alice theme. Some of you may have seen these back then.

My work at the moment definitely follows on from the Alice stuff, but indirectly. I've been looking at the concepts of truth and perception — pretty much, you know, the meaning of life — through science, philosophy and myth.
I'm still on holidays from uni at the moment, but in a month I'll be starting the final year of my undergrad. I've made a point to really try and relax these holidays, and while I've been reading and collecting things here and there, and am about to start some preparations for work I'll be doing during the semester, I've pretty much just been knitting, reading and doing my day job for now. :)

Crumpet, I love what you have done with Alice here. My favourites are the ones where she is confined to one canvas. I would love to own one, but I havent got the money to buy art. Why did you hang the triptiches with gaps in between the canvases? I mean I dont care there is no right or wrong, just interested.
crumpet
01-25-2008, 08:25 PM
The spaces between the paintings was mostly a logistics thing — the show was in a bar/café, so the space that I could hang things in wasn't too flexible. I knew that going in though, and planned each painting specifically for the space.
I do have some of my Alice stuff for sale in my store on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=1566), but not the paintings yet, because I'm a little unsure of how to handle posting a painting in the mail...
