I've been really bored and unmotivated with my art lately but recently I have been reading up on Van Gogh. I was interested to read a bit about his colour theories and decided to play around with colour using pastels. I am going to explore more using acrylics as the pastels tend to blend on the paper, which is not quite what I was after.

The poppy one looks so much like a tapestry pattern I can imagine it done with coloured threads. I think the chosen support lets some of these down a little. The newer types of gritty papers dont smudge or blurr so much so may be better. The more you do the better you get.

Thankyou everyone. I'm just experimenting at the moment and not convinced that is a style I want or in fact whether I want to pursue pastels. I just want to find that trigger that will get me motivated into producing some decent work. Currently whenever I start a painting I get bored with it after a few hours and put it aside and as a consequence I am producing nothing! Does this happen to anyone else?

Jayde, your technique is very interesting and well done, I love the poppies, and yes I do get bored with painting sometimes, if I really want to paint something I really want to do, it always turns out okay, but if I paint something that doesnt interest me much, I get bored with it and never do a good job of it,and usually ends up on top of a cupboard somewhere, I have tried different techniques etc, and I get cross with myself that I muck up so many paintings so I try to stick to the things I know Ican paint well, but doesnt hurt to be adventurous until you discover what and how you really want to paint
