2005 EVENT LISTING
================

All are invited to our first "Misfits of Modernism" Architectural
Benefit November 4th, 2005, co-hosted with Design Within Reach, Adams Morgan Studio, 1838 Columbia Rd., NW , Washington, D.C.

Take a new look at historic preservation at the first "Misfits of
Modernism" reception and benefit. This event, hosted by Design Within Reach and the Recent Past Preservation Network, will showcase the brilliant,
but largely unrecognized, works of historic modern architecture and
landscape design in D.C. and its surrounds.

The event will focus on the recent listing of Richard Neutra's
Gettysburg Cyclorama Center on the World Monuments Fund's Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites. The 1961 Cyclorama Center, a modernist Cold War-era homage to Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, is slated for demolition by the federal government as part of a landscape redevelopment. Additional endangered works by Cesar Pelli, Mies van der Rohe, I.M. Pei, Lawrence Halprin and others will be featured in presentations by local preservation advocates.

Suzanne McLees, DWR Studio Proprietor, enthusiastically joined in the
effort to save Neutra's Cyclorama Center. "We will pull out all the
stops here," at the Adams Morgan Studio, one of the newest to open under
the DWR banner. The event will feature a silent auction, photo sale, a
show of three-dimensional photography by artist Boris Starosta, and a
limited number of free copies of the latest issue of Modernism Magazine.

Contemporary abstract artist Dee Adams [US and Australia] has
generously donated two artworks to the silent auction in a bid to save Neutra's modern architectural work.

All net proceeds will benefit efforts to save the Cyclorama Center.
Presentations to begin at 7 p.m. Food and drink provided. The community is welcome at this event, which is free and open to the public. RSVP's
requested by October 29th at adamsmorgan@dwr.com or 202-265-5640.

such as Domain Real Estate Magazine, dressing the sets of Matt Damon
and Ben Affleck's reality TV series "Project Greenlight Australia" and as
well the hit Network Ten TV series "Australia's Next Top Model."

Hi DeeDee... I love your new work (especially the strung pebbles series), it's been a while since I have visited your site and you have been very busy! How did you get your work on the tv sets and programs? That must have been very exciting to see your work on television. Welcome to the forum.

Hi DeeDee,

Just happened to be watching Channel Nine's show 'Temptation' tonight and saw one of your works turn up in the first 'Gift shop'. How do you feel about your work being described as an 'egg' by the hosts and contestant?

Funny thing that... it is an egg. It's one of my favourite shapes but it really has to be done well. The whole temptation thing was a bit new to me.. as far as it being a medium for exposure, but I did like the way the piece looked. More than anything I'm glad stuff like that is helping my name get out there a bit more. The timing was perfect since the exhibition down in VIC opens Thursday night.

As for how I got on there in the first place, one of the galleries that represents me has a wonderful group of contacts. They know people in tv as well as across various other non-traditional art markets and they cross sell very well. We're currently working on licensing deals for textiles and specialty kids products.

It's all about how you market yourself. I devote about 2 hours a day to it personally.

That's fantastic... I think you do need to spend a lot of time marketing yourself, even so much as 50% of your time should be spent on marketing your art. I'm relieved for you that it was an egg... imagine if it wasn't? I agree, great timing with the exposure too. Did they mention your name? I wish I had of seen it.

They mentioned the name and the gallery. The piece is actually called Retro Egg so it was quite funny. It is what it is... *grin*

Funny thing that... it is an egg.

LOL I must've missed that 'cause the host started out describing it as some sort of magnified DNA Gene cell thingy inline with the contestant's profession.

I never watch 'Temptation' usually so I was just surprised to see your work on there after having just read your first few posts on this site earlier in the day.

Congratulations on the publicity though.

That's great for you DeeDee - and the timing was great too. TV personalities have a way of giving you that extra exposure just by trying to be funny sometimes. But it can work to your advantage.....and be a compliment. :D
